Theme: THE BAPTISM OF OUR LORD
"This is my Son, the Beloved: my favour rests on Him"
Jesus joins the queue of sinners! Incredible humility!
Today Jesus restores our privilege and dignity as
SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD.
"The day a person is baptised is more important than the day when a person is ordained priest and bishop"
"YOU are now MY SON, MY DAUGHTER"
St. Theresa sums it all up in one sentence:
"Jesus is our dearest friend, our compassionate saviour and our loving brother"
GOD IS TRULY OUR FATHER.
And my Baptism favourites!
● Priest: "Well John, have you got everything prepared for the Christening?"
Baby's father: "Yes Father, we're having turkey and ham buffet."
Priest: "No John, I meant 'spiritually' prepared."
Baby's father: Oh, sorry Father, yes I've got two barrels of Boddingtons and
a crate of scotch"!!!
● A baby boy about to be baptised yelled and screamed. Billy a guest at the
Christening, asked the baby's mother "Where did you get him from?" She
said he had been sent from heaven. "I'm not surprised" said Billy, "If I was
God, I'd have done the same."!!!
● Priest to the Baptismal party "Just think, one day this child might become
a great footballer, a great rugby play and even a headmaster. By the way
what is the child's name?" "Please Father, Mary Jane"!!!
13th January 1935 (An historical day)
"Fr. John, I don't know how old you are but you certainly don't look it"!
"Anyway, birthdays are good for you: the more you have the longer you live"!
"Yes doctor, if I'd known I was going to live so long I would have taken better care of myself"!
"You've forgotten my birthday again." "Sorry, but how can you expect me to remember your birthday when you never look a day older"!
"They say that life begins at 80, but so do lumbago, arthritis and the habit of telling the same story twice to the same people"!!!
and the best of all!
"Fr. John, how old are you really?" "In all honesty, with my hand on my heart, I can say truthfully, I've just turned 18!!!
"With your energy, life and spirit you make age jealous, time furious and all of us envious"!!! THANK YOU
Fr. John, the parishioners of St. Luke's would like to take this opportunity once again to wish you very Happy and Healthy New Year and a Happy Birthday, and to thank you for what you are to us: For your love, kindness, care, generosity, help and of course your humour.
