    HOME MISSION SUNDAY

GOD IS MISSING BUT NOT MISSED

It is estimated that while there are around one million church going Catholics, there are at least four million who rarely or never visit their local parish. Whilst this is not new, so called 'lapsed Catholics' must know from our attitude and concern that there is always a 'WELCOME HOME'. After all, we ALL have family members who cause concern! Do we even think of praying for them? St. Monica did and her wayward son became St. Augustine.

Jesus welcomed everybody, we then must be a welcoming church.

"Every Saint has a past and every sinner has a future".

If example is the teacher of mankind and important question is,

DO I GIVE JOYOUS WITNESS TO MY FAITH?

     TRUE GREATNESS

What is it? Humble service of others.

"I have come not to be served but to serve" the words of the Son of God.

How do you measure love? Strange as it may seem, by suffering.

"Greater love than this ... that he should lay down his life for his friends"

1st Reading: the Book of Wisdom.

"Torture him - that will test his love.

    2nd Reading: St. James.

"Wherever you find jealousy and ambition you find disharmony and wicked things".

Thirst for power is insatiable. Yes, even if it means KILL.

    The Gospel: St. Mark.

True greatness is NOT power and influence - it is HUMBLE SERVICE.

The Apostles never cease to amaze us! Jesus is telling them about his coming PASSION and DEATH, but they are not even listening! Instead they are quarrelling about who is thegreatest!

To end - Words of Wisdom

The most powerful force in life?  Love

    The greatest Joy?  Giving.

The most satisfying work?  Helping others.

    The ugliest personality trait?   Selfishness.

The most endangered species?   Dedicated Leaders.

    The most contagious spirit?   Enthusiasm.

    The most prized possession?   Integrity.

The most incredible computer?   The Brain.

    The deadliest weapon?   The Tongue.

    and finally

The most powerful channel of communication:   PRAYER.
