THE END OF THE WORLD

"But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it"

DON'T BE DECEIVED - THEY DON'T ! ONLY GOD!

Today's Gospel is APOCALYPTIC - an IMAGINARY end of time.

Both Daniel and Mark lived in a time of great suffering. Daniel's people faced ferocious persecution for their faith in God and many were killed. St. Mark's community were suffering under a bloody persecution. They need to know that this is not the end; that GOD is in control and that His is the FINAL VICTORY. SO TRUST HIM.

We live in an age of uncertainty: the future never looks wholly secure. But Jesus holds out a vision that takes us past our worst IMAGININGS. There is a place beyond the mountains of arms and weapons, beyond all kinds of terrorism. But this vision doesn't free us from striving for justice, peace and right living. Yes, believe it or not, God will have the FINAL WORD.

"But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it"

Retired Priest's Fund.

Next Sunday we have a Special Collection for the Retired Priest's Fund, a fund which supports all our retired priests, of which there are about sixty at present, in their retirement. We all know that the People of the Diocese hold great affection for all our priests, and Bishop John invites you to be as generous as you can to this Appeal and Special Collection. With your support we will be able to build up the Fund to meet the current and future needs of our sick and retired priests. In anticipation, the diocese and the retired priests thank you for your generosity and support.

And a few gems to end - THE WORLD!

Death is nature's way of telling you to SLOW DOWN!

The old think that the world will end when they die. The young think it began when they were born!

It's not that I'm afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens.

Of course I believe in a life of eternal bliss after death, but why talk about such a gloomy subject?!

Did you know that beds are the most dangerous places in the world? Eighty per cent of people die in bed!
